Document unusual assets, rights and distinctions

Practical guide · Reviewed 27 August 2026 · By the Possessions editorial team

Some possessions are documentary rather than physical: a contractual right, manorial title, barony, honorary distinction or other claimed designation may still need a careful private record.

Record the claim, not a conclusion

Keep the claimed designation, jurisdiction, issuing or recognising authority, succession or transfer terms and source documents together. An entry in Possessions does not certify legal recognition, nobility, ownership, transferability or market value.

A map point is optional

Rights do not have to be forced onto a map. They can sit in the same private inventory as the physical assets and obligations they relate to.

Documents remain deliberate

Supporting files and private notes are encrypted in the browser. Seek qualified legal advice before relying on any claimed status or transaction.
